1982 Datsun 200SX
Update (5/4) – The seller has lowered the price to $1250.
Okay, let’s get this out of the way right now – yeah, that’s a lot of rust. Usually the cars featured in the Hawking a Hatch category are in relatively pristine condition – low miles, no body damage, clean interiors. This one is a little different – sure it’s still a rare car nowadays, but this one is featured because of its quarter-million mile odometer reading and the fact that the seller obviously loves this car.
According to the
advertisement tribute to this Japanese classic, the owner bought the car new 30 years and 258,900 miles ago. And he refers to the car as “her.” If that’s not love, I don’t know what is.
This example is powered by the fuel injected Z22E Nissan engine, which produced 103 thundering horses. The thought of a sporty vehicle with those power numbers in the context of today’s horsepower wars is honestly laughable, but at the time, that output was the norm and the rear-drive Datsun was a strong competitor in the sports coupe niche.
So, break out the welding torch and the patch panels and scratch together 1500 bucks, because this car deserves a second life with a sympathetic owner.
